On Friday, May 30, Taiwanese-American singer sunkis and Chinese-Canadian singer yung kai released their collaboration, “where the sunlight glows” via 88rising—the pioneering global music company spotlighting groundbreaking Asian talent. The release arrives just ahead of both artists’ individual debuts at 88rising’s Head In The Clouds festival in Los Angeles.
sunkis, a pop and R&B artist from San Francisco, is the first Asian act signed to 11 Music Group—a sublabel under TDE founded by Manny Smith. After making major waves in China with his debut single “trust me” (which racked up over 500 million streams), he returned to the Bay Area and released his viral hit “top tier.” sunkis is set to perform at HITC LA with a closing slot.
yung kai broke through with his debut single “blue,” which climbed to #2 on the Spotify Global Viral Chart, topped charts across Asia, and has since amassed over 450 million streams. He’s signed to Flood, with distribution through global music powerhouse BMG, and will also be taking the stage at HITC LA.
Bound by shared cultural roots, sunkis and yung kai blend their distinct styles into a bilingual track that effortlessly bridges English and Mandarin—offering a sound that transcends language.
“where the sunlight glows” is a smooth, emotive track that radiates warmth, perfectly capturing the feeling of falling in love—the kind where someone becomes your source of light. It’s a tender and reflective summer anthem rooted in both artists’ identities and musical sensibilities.
“The meaning behind ‘where the sunlight glows’ can be left open ended, but for us it is about a better place or even a future that you can’t see for yourself, that maybe a peer, friend or romantic partner who sees for you,” shared sunkis.
