Happy Asian Heritage Month and AAPI Heritage Month!
In Canada, we celebrate Asian Heritage Month every May—a time to honour the lives, cultures, and contributions of Asian communities across the country. This includes individuals with roots in East, South, Southeast, Central, and Western Asia. In the U.S., May is recognized as Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month—also known as AANHPI, which includes Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities.
As a proudly Canadian-based organization, owned and operated by an individual of Asian descent, Beyond The Beat takes pride in shining a spotlight on and providing support for Asian artists. If you haven’t read Part 1, 2, 3 or 4, make sure to check those out as well.
In this blog, we’re spotlighting six incredible Asian-American and Asian-Canadian artists you should be listening to—not just this month, but all year long.
REHMA is a Pakistani-American R&B/Pop singer-songwriter from Los Angeles. She made her debut on November 21, 2019 with the single “Bella Rosa” and since then has garnered over 100K monthly listeners on Spotify. Her debut EP Mercy released on August 20, 2020.
On May 5, 2024, she collaborated with Zahoor for the single “Harkalay” which is her most popular song with over 1.7 million streams. hit 100K streams on Spotify, making it S1NE’s second most popular song.
So far in 2025, REHMA released “MONSOON” on March 17, which is the song we discovered her by and “Favorite Song” on April 22 which is a collaboration with THEMBA!

Thomas Ng is an Alternative R&B artist raised in Hong Kong and currently based in LA. He made his debut on February 14, 2020 with the single “Shadow Man” which was in collaboration with STVN. We first discovered him through his song “flaws” which released on September 3, 2021. This is one of his most popular songs with 3.4 million streams.
Thomas Ng has released songs frequently and has gained over 143K monthly listeners since his debut. On January 28, 2022, he collaborated with Milky Day for the single “One Last Dance”. This is his most popular song with over 15 million streams.
His latest and first release of 2025 is the single “Come To Me” which came out on March 26.

francene rouelle is a Filipina-American singer and songwriter based in Austin, Texas with around 500 monthly listeners on Spotify. She is signed under mHart, Austin’s first and only Asian American independent music label. She made her debut on January 19, 2024 with the single “love wasn’t enough”.
On April 19, 2024, she released her debut album finally a fairytale which is how we discovered her. Her latest release is from July 2024 for a deluxe version of her album. Hopefully she will release some new music soon.

gyun is a singer and songwriter from Seoul, South Korea with around 7.5K monthly listeners. He started releasing music in 2019 on SoundCloud through a collaboration with Mommyson&Friends.
His official debut was on December 3, 2023 with the single “FEELS LIKE DEATH”. Followed by that single, he released his debut EP *PSEUDO 1.0.* This is how we discovered him as he has a song with BE’O titled “VAMPIRE GIRL”.
On April 14, 2025, he released his second EP *PSEUDO 2.0.* This is also his latest release and we cannot wait for more music this year.

suggi is a Korean-Canadian singer and songwriter based in Vancouver, Canada. He made his debut on June 4, 2018 with the EP *Get off Your Phone.* On July 9, 2019, he released his debut album cheer up! which includes his most popular song “astroboy.” which has over 28.5 million streams. This is how we discovered him.
suggi has released a lot of music since his debut and has garnered over 134K monthly listeners on Spotify. His latest release “joke” from April 4 is one of our new favourite songs.

DIVNE is a Filipina-Canadian Pop/R&B singer and songwriter from Toronto with 2.9K monthly listeners on Spotify. She made her debut on June 17, 2022 with the single “Mind in the Sky”. Following her debut, she released “september” in September 2022 which is her most popular song with over 276K streams on Spotify.
We discovered DIVNE in 2024 with the release of her single “Daisy” in April 2024 as she submitted to our form. Her latest release “Moonlight” came out on July 2024.
