Sound Scope is a series spotlighting emerging artists who are redefining the global music scene. In this edition, we’re highlighting Filipino-Canadian musician MICO, who made his debut on July 30, 2020 with the EP 21st century heartbreak.

Blending indie pop with 2000s rock and punk, MICO creates a sound that’s entirely his own. We’ve been following him since 2022, after discovering his music on TikTok while he was promoting the song “down!” — featured on his EP second thoughts.

Since his debut, MICO has gained over 880K monthly Spotify listeners. His most popular single, “cut my hair”, released on November 21, 2022 has surpassed 17 million streams.

MICO has toured extensively over the past few years. We had the chance to see him live during his Fantasy Tour in Toronto in December 2023, alongside Braden Bales and Ashley Sienna. Most recently, we attended his sold-out hometown show in November 2024 for the cancel your plans tour, where we also had the opportunity to photograph him. As longtime fans, it’s been such a joy to watch him grow into one of Toronto’s most prominent indie artists — and to get to know him personally along the way.

In just over three years, MICO has accomplished so much. He kicked off 2025 by touring across Europe and the UK on his internet hometown hero world tour and will be continuing with several U.S. dates this May.

Next up, MICO is set to perform at Lollapalooza Berlin this July, sharing the stage with icons like Justin Timberlake, j-hope of BTS, and Gracie Abrams. This is a huge milestone in his journey, and we couldn’t be more excited for what’s to come.

Having followed MICO since 2022, he’s become one of our absolute favourite artists. Watching his growth has been inspiring — and we can’t wait to see where he goes next.
